The Travel Industry Council of Macau was founded in 2001 as a non-profit professional employer organization. The purpose of the Council is to protect the rights of outbound travelers, to clearly define the rights and responsibilities of travel agencies, to create a healthy business environment for travel agencies, and to raise the standard of practitioners. Since 2002, the Council has been invited by the Macao Special Administrative Region Government to participate in the Macau Tourism Development Committee, Tourism Crisis Management Office, and the Quality Tourism Services Accreditation Scheme, acting as a bridge between the industry and the government.
The Council and the principal responsible persons were also awarded the Merit Award and the Medal of Merit in Tourism in 2008 and 2011 by the Government of the Macao Special Administrative Region. Since its establishment, the Council has repeatedly held product promotion seminars with the Tourism Authority of Thailand, Tourism Administration of Sichuan Province and Hong Kong Outbound Tour Operators Association Ltd, etc.. The Council has more than 70 members, accounting for more than one-third of the total number of travel agencies in Macau. Most of the members are engaged in outbound, inbound and exhibition travel.
